Teaching Grammar Using Media Song

Songs are useful to learn the grammar and make sure the comprehension of the students through fun activities and discussions.

Ÿ Topic            : Simple past tense

Ÿ Skill              : Grammar

Ÿ Goals/Aim   :

-          Student can understand the song

-          Student can analyze simple past form from the song

-          Give an example of vocabulary related to simple past form

-          Student can make some sentences using vocabulary from the song

-          Student can make simple sentence, compound sentence, and complex sentence through the lesson

Ÿ Activities      : Analyze the song’s lyric

Ÿ Step:

1.      Teacher gives a short explanation about the material and media that will use in the lesson.

2.      Teacher gives print out lyrics to each student.

3.      Students listens the song carefully (twice).

4.      Teacher ask students to work in pairs to analyze about:

·         What form of the verbs in the songs?

·         Show the evidences?

·         What is the formula of the tense that used in the song?

5.      Teacher gives a simple question to confirm the students.

6.      Teacher ask students to work in pairs to discuss:

·         What kind of the grammar in the song?

·         When we use this grammar?

·         Where we can find the kind of this grammar?

·         How to apply this grammar in conversations?

·         Make simple sentence, compound sentence, and complex sentence using vocabulary in the song!

7.      Students submit their works and teacher will assess their work.

8. Teacher gives an assignment to the students to make a recount based on their personal experience.

9.      Teacher gives feedback and evaluate the lesson and student works.
